The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, and is held annually starting the first Thursday in September. The Festival lasts for 10 days and screens between 300-400 films at approximately 23 screens in Toronto?s downtown core.
Founded in 1976, the premiere North American film festival attracts over 300,000 people each year from the general public to industry audiences and celebrities. The festival is based around the Yorkville neighborhood, an upscale area in the downtown Toronto core. The festival is known for the buzz it brings to Yorkville as media and cameras cover the red carpets hype, fashion and stars.
Toronto International Film Festival plays a variety of films including mainstream Hollywood, foreign and independently made films. Several films start their Oscars buzz campaign from TIFF.
The film festival runs for 10 days starting on the Thursday night after Canadian Labour day, which is the first Monday of September. Movies run throughout each day with the latest movie starting at midnight.
