Scott Conant’s Scarpetta Review

Situated inside the very private Thompson Hotel is Food Network’s chef Scott Conant’s restaurant, Scarpetta. Once you walk through the revolving doors, you will pass through a stunning lobby bar and be greeted by the hostess. As you follow her you’ll notice the many seating choices, from luxurious oversized booths, to seating for two, leather place mats and fine cutlery dress the up the wonderful wooden tables.

The waiter brings you a beautiful basket of freshly baked bread in different varieties to try with a trio of spreads. Compliments to the very considerate chef who provided a vegetarian menu, he knows not everyone who dines out will always order a steak. So, in that case, he has added six first course choices as well as six entrée options.

Although the portions seemed a tad bit small; the food at Scarpetta is outstanding. Take for instance the Roasted Cipollini ($12), who else would’ve thought that a plate full of onions could be so scrumptious?
The Farro Risotto ($19) is an excellent vegetarian main that would have you wanting more! Carnivores, don’t worry, you have plenty items to choose from, like the Pappardelle ($25) with pork ragu, or the Steelhead Trout ($30).

Besides the food though, the service is right on point, the staff knows their menu well, and isn’t afraid to admit if they’re perplexed by your questions. They will go find the answers, pronto. The feature piece of the establishment is the wine cellar equipped with a ladder. Lighting is pretty dim in the dining room, and very dark in the restrooms.

The clientele who dine here aren’t afraid of spending some hard earned dollars on gourmet food, or their wardrobe. Almost model type females walk in and out of the restaurant with their stilettos and short dresses on. The men can’t help but stare.

Scarpetta is one of those restaurants in Toronto that you have to try, at least once. How was your dining experience there? Would you go back again?
