Le Select Bistro

September’s Featured Restaurant of the month has been in the business for over thirty years. Le Select is a bistro that specializes in French cuisine with a ‘come as you are, eat like royalty’ feel. The walls are plastered with Parisian film posters, staff scurries along answering questions and giving recommendations to guests.

With over 1,000 wines to choose from, it’s no revelation that Le Select has received “Best of Award of Excellence” for 2002, 2003 and “Award of Excellence” for the years 1999-2001. Bottles range in price from $25 to $2,500, and wines by the glass can be bought as well. Le Select Bistro is the place to go to get out of your comfort zone. Those who dislike sparkling wines should try the Kir Saint- Germain ($9); it isn’t overpowering, but refreshing and will get you ready for your enjoyable meal.

As far as the menu goes, most of the items are certified organic; Chef Albert Ponzo takes pride in crafting quality, gourmet food. Remarkable meals frequently mean over the top costs, however, Le Select’s astounding menu is palatable and still easy on the pocket. Including a prix-fixe menu for $35, daily specials, and every other item is all under $30. There’s something for everyone, with a hearty choice of salads and hors-d’oeuvres, different cuts of meat, fish, and vegetarian items, even the pickiest eaters will be amazed at the choices.

Smooth music, diffused lighting, big booths, mahogany chairs. At the bottom of the steps is the blazing kitchen where orders are shouted and delivered at the window. Throughout the long hallway, awards are proudly hung for observation; glimpses inside the exquisitely organized wine cellar with numbers and letters for effortlessly locating that exact bottle. Le Select Bistro has character; tiny black and white tiles on the floor, art deco light fixtures, and a communal iron sink in between the separate toilets.

Date night is all right at Le Select Bistro.
