The University of Toronto is the largest University in Canada and recognized as a global leader in research and teaching.  The university was founded by Royal Charter in 1827 as King’s College, the first institution of higher learning in the colony of Upper Canada. Originally controlled by the Church of England, the university assumed the present name in 1850 upon becoming a secular institution.

U of T lies about 2 kilometres north of the Financial District in Downtown Toronto, and immediately south of the neighbourhoods of Yorkville and The Annex. The University of Toronto grounds encompasses 71 hectares (176 acres) bounded mostly by Bay Street, Bloor Street, Spadina Avenue and College Street. The site of the university is on the grounds that surround Queen’s Park .

The University of Toronto, ranks among Canada?s top medical doctoral universities, and also ranks in the top 30 universities around the world by several magazines. In the University of Toronto?s long history, it has educated the likes of Governors Generals, Prime Ministers of Canada, foreign leaders, Justices of the Supreme Court, and has been affiliated with Nobel laureates.

University of Toronto Campuses

At the University of Toronto, students, faculty and staff study, work and live on three campuses. There are three campuses to choose from at U of T ? St. George (in downtown Toronto), Mississauga (in the west) and Scarborough (in the east).

University of Toronto St. George (downtown) Campus

The St. George campus combines historic architecture and inviting green spaces in the centre of downtown Toronto, immediately south of Yorkville.

At the historic St. George campus, undergraduate students belong either to one of seven colleges (for Faculty of Arts & Science students), or smaller faculties such as Applied Science and Engineering, Music and Physical Education and Health. Each of these learning communities has its own personality and the close-knit group of students, faculty, staff and alumni offers a home base and support.

University of Toronto Mississauga Campus

The University of Toronto Mississauga is situated in an area of protected greenbelt on the Credit River, west of downtown Toronto. The campus setup is more intimate, and features award-winning architecture and tree-lined walkways, making it easy for students to meet one another and interact with faculty and staff.

U of T Mississauga’s comprehensive offerings include: an array of language courses in Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu; innovative programs in communications, culture and information technology; and Canada?s first university forensic science program.

University of Toronto Scarborough Campus

The University of Toronto Scarborough has 10,000 students and is situated on Highland Creek Valley, about 30 minutes east of downtown Toronto. This mid-size campus has a diverse student population and a strong sense of community.

The University of Toronto Scarborough follows global economic trends, marketplace demands and leading-edge educational opportunities in order to develop innovative approaches to teaching and research. U of T Scarborough offers co-op learning opportunities and a variety of U of T?s unique programs, including the Green Path program, a preparatory program to help Chinese students adjust to language and culture differences, and a business administration program that is one of the most competitive undergraduate management programs in the country.

Directions and Map to the University of Toronto St George Campus

By Car

The St. George campus is located in downtown Toronto. It spans several city blocks, stretching approximately north from College Street, east from Spadina Avenue, south from Bloor Street and west from Bay Street. The campus is accessible via the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway, which connect Toronto with Ontario?s 400-series highways.

If you are travelling eastbound on the Gardiner Expressway, you can choose any one of three exit ramps located at Spadina Avenue, York Street and Bay Street.

If you are travelling southbound on the Don Valley Parkway, take the Bloor/Bayview exit ramp (use the Bloor Street lane).

By Subway TTC

There are four subway stations near the St. George campus:

St. George (at Bloor Street and St. George Street)
Spadina (at Bloor Street and Spadina Road)
Queen?s Park (at College Street and University Avenue)
Museum (at Bloor Street and Queen?s Park Crescent)

By Streetcar TTC

There are two streetcar routes that pass by campus:

The 510 Spadina streetcar runs along Spadina Avenue from Spadina subway station, along the western edge of the campus.

The 506 Carleton streetcar runs along College Street, along the southern part of the campus. You can catch the 506 from College station and Queen?s Park station on the north-south Yonge-University-Spadina line.

By Bus TTC

There is one bus that runs through campus:

Catch the 94 Wellesley bus from Castle Frank subway station (Bloor-Danforth line), Wellesley subway station (at Wellesley Street and Yonge Street on the Yonge-University line), or Ossington station (Bloor-Danforth line.)
