Toronto Search Engine
Searching Toronto is a targeted search engine which is powered by Google and only includes high quality Toronto and surrounding area related websites. We use Google's Custom Search Technology to add new websites to our index daily. With the ability to customize our Search Engine, we are constantly adding, removing and editing our search results to guarantee the most relevent websites appear for any Toronto search.
Although our site is powered by Google, there are differences between both engines. Here are some of the differences;
Websites are reviewed
Rather then indexing websites automatically through bots, websites are reviewed and assessed in terms of quality before they are manually added into the Searching Toronto index. This is done to prevent spam websites which don't contribute any real quality to search results.
Another reason for reviewing websites is to include only relevent web pages of a certain website. Some websites are very large and can include content from other Canadian cities as well (example hotel websites), however we would only index pages that are relevant to Toronto.
Refine Search Results
Each website added to our indexed will be "labelled" as a certain type of website (News site, Informative site etc.). The labels help us identify what kind of content the website brings to our search results. With each website being labeled, it is much easier to refine your search results on the fly in order to find the information you are looking for.
For example if I did a search for "Movies", I can click on the "for Information" refinement link to find out about Toronto theatre movie listings. If I wanted to shop for movie DVD's, I can simply select the "for Shopping" refinement. These labels allow us to generate multiple search results from a single query making the results more targeted to your needs.

Same Technology Different Results
Search Engine algorithms are very detailed and complex that the smallest adjustment or variation of a search term will generate a different set of results. Being able to label and control the quality of websites included in our search engine gives us the ability to give you search results that are unique, even when comparing to Google's results.
